History
Towards the end of the 17th century, the Rappe family arrived in Mörkaskog in Småland, Sweden. Three hundred years later, Adolf-Fredrik Rappe came up with the idea of of making a floor that wwas very stable yet maintained the authentic sence of wood.
DIMENSIONALLY STABLE WOODEN FLOORING
The secret behind the stability of Rappgo's wooden flooring is the construction of the planks. Rappgo's planks are constructed in layers that are glued at an angle to each other. This guarantees dimensional stability and minimizes gaps in the joints, year after year. A solid wooden floor can never offer the same benefits. A solid wooden floor will shrink and expand, while a multilayer floor remains stable.
Rapploc - Rappgo's click jointed system
Rappgo presents the 5th generation of click-jointed flooring in our new RappLoc click system. This is the latest ingenious glue-free flooring system. The boards are laid one by one, in exactly the same way as when the tongues and grooves are glued, without having to connect the short ends together first. All you need for a perfect result is a saw and distance wedges.
Our laying instructions describe the process in detail. If one or more boards have to be replaced, the flooring boards are simply removed and new boards are laid in place again. It couldn't be simpler!
UNDERFLOOR HEATING AND WOODEN FLOORING
– POINTS TO CONSIDER WHEN YOU COMBINE RADIANT HEATING SYSTEMS WITH WOODEN FLOORING
1. The room should have a relative humidity of between 30-60% throughout the year.
2. The surface temperature of the floor must not exceed 80°F (27°C). This includes areas under rugs, etc.
3. Where the flooring has glued joints, the floor must be double-glued. That means that the glue is applied to both upper and lower sides of the tongue and then allowed to be drawn into the groove.
4. The sub-floor must be flat. Max. 2mm difference in height over a 2 meter length.
5. Always place a damp proof membrane between the radiant heating and the flooring to prevent condensation.
6. Use underlayment to reduce impact sound.
DIFFERENT SYSTEMS OF RADIANT HEATED FLOORING
It has become increasingly common to heat a room or complete homes with radiant heated flooring. As houses become better insulated the possibility of installing a low-temperature radiant heating system becomes a reality.
When it comes to wooden flooring, a water-borne system is best. There are also good electrical systems today that can be combined with wooden flooring. If you choose an electrical radiant heated floor system make sure that the supplier or manufacturer of the system guarantees the suitability of the system for wooden floors.
SUITABILITY OF WOODEN FLOORING WITH RADIANT HEATING SYSTEMS
You must follow Rappgo's installation instructions carefully for every flooring we supply. The instructions will say what types of wood are not suitable for radiant heating. This applies particularly to Beech and Maple flooring. These shrink and swell more than other types of wood, which can cause damage to the floor. This damage is not considered a manufacturing defect and will not be guaranteed. We do not therefore recommend Beech and Maple in conjunction with radiant heating. If you still decide to install Beech or Maple flooring, Rappgo will disclaim liability for any damage that may occur.
It is important that the surface temperature of the floor does not exceed 80°F (27°C) and that the relative air humidity lies between 30 and 60%.
